How to Pray the 15 Decade Rosary

The 15 Decade Rosary includes the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. Basically, it is three 5 decade rosaries in one. The 15 decades comprise the traditional 150 Psalters that was given to St. Dominic by Our Blessed Mother Mary in the 13th Century. On Oct. 16, 2002, St. Pope John Paul ll issued an Apostolic Letter encouraging all Catholics to recite the rosary. He also suggested five new Mysteries (Luminous) that might supplement the meditation on the traditional rosary. You may choose to include the Luminous Mysteries into the 15 decade by praying one more set of mysteries around. Or, you may choose to pray all of the mysteries on a 20 decade, or the Luminous Mysteries on a 5 decade rosary. There is no right or wrong way. One Hail Mary from the heart is good, 20 decades is good. The choice of which style rosary used is a personal preference. Prayer from the heart is the key.

Prayers of the Holy Rosary

The Apostles' Creed

I Believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Hail, Holy Queen

Hail! Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, O most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement! O Loving! O sweet Virgin Mary!
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray. O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries in the most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise: through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Fatima Prayers

O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are in most need of Your mercy.

My God, I believe, I adore, I trust and I love Thee. I beg pardon for all those, who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love Thee.

St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray. And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the divine power of God, cast into hell, satan, and all evil spirits who wander throughout the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

How to Pray the 15 Decade Rosary

1. Make the Sign of the Cross and kiss the Crucifix.

2. Say the Apostles' Creed on the Crucifix.

3. The Our Father is said on each of the large beads.(1 in the beginning and 1 before each set of 10 decades.)

4. The Hail Mary is said on each of the small beads. (3 in the beginning and then on the sets of 10 decades.)

5. State the Mystery and meditate on it, beginning on the second Our Father bead and then on each Our Father before the decade of(10) Hail Mary's.

6, Say the Glory Be after the first 3 Hail Mary's and then after each decade of (10)Hail Mary's.

7. Say the Fatima Prayer after each decade of (10) Hail Mary's.

8. Say the Hail Holy Queen in conclusion of either 5, 15, or 20 decades. If the Mysteries are said throughout different times of the day, the Hail Holy Queen may be prayed after each of the Mysteries. If the 15 Decades are recited continuously from the beginning to end, only 1 Hail Holy Queen is needed.

9. You may choose to add the St. Michael Prayer ,the Prayer Before the Rosary, the Prayer After the Rosary, the Litany of Loreto etc.....

10. If the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries are said during the same day, it is not necessary to repeat the beginning Apostles' Creed, Our Father, 3 Hail Mary's and Glory Be.( If interrupted just pick up where you left off.) For contemplative reasons, it is best to try to pray at least 1 full mystery continuously. For example: the Joyful may be prayed in the morning, the Sorrowful (and Luminous) during the day, and the Glorious during the evening/night.

11. If the Luminous Mysteries are included they should be inserted between the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries, in order to follow the progress of Our Lord's Life in the Gospels.

12. You may begin the 15 Decade Rosary with the Joyful Mysteries first, or begin with the Mystery suggested for that day of the week.( Example Joyful; Mondays and Saturdays, the Sundays of Advent, and Sundays from the Epiphany until Lent. Sorrowful; Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the year; and daily from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. Glorious; Wednesdays and Sundays from Easter until Advent. Luminous; Thursdays.)

13. Make the Sign of the Cross and kiss the Crucifix.
